Waxing and getting my nails done have always gone together. From my first brow wax at the local nail salon back in 1998…the two have been synonymous with being a girl and have become part of my regular maintenance. However, the overwhelming chemical smells, those horrid vibrating chairs, blaring TV’s and, let’s be honest, communication issues sent me running to the hills. Add to that those creepy hand posters and I had enough. Enter BUFF, A Mod Nail Bar which is located on the upper level of WAX. Intimate and quiet, you won’t find any vibrating chairs here – just custom made zero gravity chairs so you can get your pedicure and catch up on a nap at the same time. Manicures are done at a quartz topped bar table so you can hang out and chat with friends while you get those cuticles worked on. We only use only polishes that are free of nasty harsh chemicals such as Butter London, RGB and Shellac and offer up a dose of fashion with NARS & Deborah Lippman. So come on in and give your nails the treatment they really deserve. Manicures $25, Pedicures $50, Gel Polish $40.
A few things we love about the month of May: Sooooo many birthday parties, summer is around the corner, and Easter candy is insanely cheap. May is always a very busy month for everyone. For WAX, May just gives us a good glimpse into our our summer ahead. So far, outlook looks GREAT! :)

Ah, the Inman Park Festival. Our annual neighborhood event that clogs the streets with people and parades, music and street vendors. It’s great and we look forward to it every year. So much so that this year that we decided to close for the day on Saturday. That way we can enjoy the music and the fun and not be stressed out for our client’s that can’t find parking spaces or in some cases can’t even get into the neighborhood!
If you’ve never been it’s a great way to learn about Inman Park, Atlanta’s first suburb and tour some of our great Victorian homes. I work in Inman Park and live in O4W and I always find it fascinating that this was considered a suburb back in 1889. How time’s have changed! Now this is considered real in town living.
Check out the wonderful artists and bands that are sure to be there. Take in some good festival food, grab a frozen lemonade (I hear they’re great with a bit of vodka added) and enjoy the day.
We’ll see you next week!
Dear P. Willow,
I’m a little nervous about my first Brazilian. I know that it’s going to be great, but I think I might need some liquid courage before I come in. I’m new to Atlanta and was wondering where would be a good place to grab a drink before my appointment?
Yours Truly,
Don’t Judge Me
Darling, we here at WAX never judge. It’s in poor taste and we are nothing if not tasteful. I’m assuming you want to take in the glorious Spring weather here in Atlanta (pollen not withstanding) so I suggest you have a drink on one our many outdoor patios. I tend to veer towards to sunny ones (nothing beats a good lounge in the sun) so I have the following suggestions for you:
Fritti - Our neighbor and our dear friend. Go here when you want late afternoon sun and some good people watching. It’s located right down the road from WAX at the corner of Highland & Elizabeth and the position is great for taking in all of Inman Park. Ask for a glass of Bellavista – (the best Prosecco you will ever drink), but be patient because they have to go next door to Sotto Sotto and get it…as it’s not on the menu…shhhh
Barcelona Wine Bar - My Sunday afternoon hangout. Yes, the food is decent, but the 1/2 price bottles of wine on Sunday are the reason I go. Take your Sunday NY Times, meet a few few friends and let the day linger on. Once the sun goes down the outdoor fireplace and heaters are there to take the chill off and and if you ask nicely, Sean, the manager will be more than happy to bring you a blanket to cuddle up in.
Victory Sandwich Bar - Our neighbor to the right, they have a newly built patio upon which you can perch and see the ongoing parade of skinny jeans and wire rimmed glasses this place attracts. Make sure to try my favorite sandwich the Victory at Sea (white anchovies, frisee lettuce and lemon mayo) and skip the chips. Save your calories for the Jack and Coke slushy. Too sweet for my tastes, but popular none the less.
P’cheen – What to say about P’cheen? It’s part bistro, part pub and part lounge. But my favorite part is the craft Moonshine. There’s always at least 10 flavors and right now I’m digging the jalapeño – just the right amount of kick you’ll need to march down to your WAX appointment with confidence.
Cheers!
We have recently added 100% Pure‘s therapeutic bath salts to our selection of body care products, and all we can say is: Why didn’t we carry this sooner?!
It comes in two scents: Lavender and Eucalyptus; perfect for a refreshing spring time soak. Bath salts are great for many health reasons, however, this is not your ordinary salt soak…
100% Pure Sea Therapy is derived from crystalized kelp that is cultivated from an organic seaweed farm off the Brittany coast of France. This highly detoxifying bath is perfect for improving body circulation and eliminating unwanted toxins. In a world full of environmental pollutants and food that can be nutritionally deficient, this is a great way to flush out the bad and absorb some much needed minerals.
But that’s not all! Due to the vitamin K content, taking a bath with these crystalized sea greens with help balance your body chemistry without dehydrating it, and it will help restore hormonal balance for a more youthful body. It’s perfect for softening the skin and even aids in the elimination of bruises and dry, rough patches of skin.
With over 60 different minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and amino acids that replenish, nourish, detox and heal, how could we NOT add sea salt soaks to our weekly beauty and health regime? If you’ve been looking for an excuse to add bath time to your busy schedule, here’s your opportunity. Take your pick of either soothing lavender or revitalizing eucalyptus. Although, it may be hard to pick just one…
1.) Arden’s Garden: Their crispy kale chips are sooooo good!
Also the juice that has strawberries, apple, and lime is my new favorite.
2.) Argan Oil: I purchased an Argan oil spray for my hair recently. I think it’s love. It makes my hair soft and shiny but not greasy.
3.) Moroccan Amber Candle: This isn’t exactly a “new” addiction, but the larger size with 3 wicks is awesome. I can smell it throughout my whole apartment…
4.) Spry Sugar Free Gum: It doesn’t have sugar that’s bad for my teeth and it doesn’t have aspartame that’s bad for my body!
5.) Zevia All Natural Soda: Zero calories, zero sugar, and it actually tastes good!
Dear P. Willow,
It’s finally spring and I am planning a trip to the beach in a couple of weeks. Let’s just say, I have been in full hibernation this winter! My skin is so pale, and I haven’t waxed in weeks…
Before I leave for my trip, I really need to schedule a full body wax and a spray tan at RAW! Should I get waxed before, or after I get my spray tan?
Sincerely,
Beach Bum
Dear Beach Bum,
First of all, I am so jealous of this beach trip! Think about me when you’re catching those waves and indulging in endless crab legs…
At WAX, we are faced with this question ALL the time! Thanks to our wonderful neighbors at RAW organic bronzing studio, clients can finally get a spray tan that looks natural and free of harsh chemicals. We always suggest waiting at least 24 hours after getting waxed to be spray tanned. This is to avoid irritating the skin that has recently been waxed. Waxing after getting spray tanned will result in lifting the color, and nobody wants a splotchy tan (whether it’s real, or not…)!
xoxo,
March showers bring April flowers, and that is certainly the theme for Misty’s addictions this month. It’s a great time to refresh and renew, and get ready for swimsuit season. Yes, that’s right. We have less than 90 days, ladies….

Childhood ambition: to become a backup dancer for Michael Jackson (duh).

First job: A bodega in Brooklyn.
3 Things people wouldn’t necessarily know about you:
1. I love taking bubble baths
2. I prefer vintage over new
3. I take about 5 naps a day. I’m a firm believer in beauty rest!
