Waxing and getting my nails done have always gone together. From my first brow wax at the local nail salon back in 1998…the two have been synonymous with being a girl and have become part of my regular maintenance. However, the overwhelming chemical smells, those horrid vibrating chairs, blaring TV’s and, let’s be honest, communication issues sent me running to the hills. Add to that those creepy hand posters and I had enough. Enter BUFF, A Mod Nail Bar which is located on the upper level of WAX. Intimate and quiet, you won’t find any vibrating chairs here – just custom made zero gravity chairs so you can get your pedicure and catch up on a nap at the same time. Manicures are done at a quartz topped bar table so you can hang out and chat with friends while you get those cuticles worked on. We only use only polishes that are free of nasty harsh chemicals such as Butter London, RGB and Shellac and offer up a dose of fashion with NARS & Deborah Lippman. So come on in and give your nails the treatment they really deserve. Manicures $25, Pedicures $50, Gel Polish $40.
Ah, the Inman Park Festival. Our annual neighborhood event that clogs the streets with people and parades, music and street vendors. It’s great and we look forward to it every year. So much so that this year that we decided to close for the day on Saturday. That way we can enjoy the music and the fun and not be stressed out for our client’s that can’t find parking spaces or in some cases can’t even get into the neighborhood!
If you’ve never been it’s a great way to learn about Inman Park, Atlanta’s first suburb and tour some of our great Victorian homes. I work in Inman Park and live in O4W and I always find it fascinating that this was considered a suburb back in 1889. How time’s have changed! Now this is considered real in town living.
Check out the wonderful artists and bands that are sure to be there. Take in some good festival food, grab a frozen lemonade (I hear they’re great with a bit of vodka added) and enjoy the day.
We’ll see you next week!
Our resident lady about the town, P. Willow, lives the life we wish we could. You’ve seen her on our postcards, you’ve seen her slinking around our facebook and twitter. Now she’s blogging and ready to offer her two cents on life and living! Learn a little more about our “mascot”…

If there was ever a time to hone in on the handcrafted spirit, I feel like this holiday season is it. This year is all about the conscious gift. Whether that means the amount of money being spent (or not being spent), the practice in which something is made, or it’s country of origin; it is more important now than ever to focus on how you treat your dollar. Plus, it makes for better, more thoughtful gifts!…and isn’t that the point?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock of bliss and utter isolation from all things media, I feel it’s safe to assume that we are all painfully aware of our nation’s current financial state (or lack there of). For years, boundless credit lines made shopping for our loved ones a sparkly, department store breeze (and let’s not forget about treating #1!); leaving in the not so distant future the heavy burden of repayment……mega bummer.
Sure, you could just make all of your presents (would it be offensive to break out the ol’ potholder loom?), but let’s be serious. Most of us don’t have the time to make all of our loved ones a special gift (even if they really do LOVE potholders). What is one to do, if you want the convenience of browsing the internet in your PJs, and the originality of a piece of art? That’s where Etsy.com comes in: An e-commerce site focused on handmade or vintage items, as well as art and craft supplies (BRILLIANT!). I’ve compiled a list of my favorite shops on Etsy, as well as favorite local shops in the Atlanta area. There is nothing more fulfilling than paying someone directly for their hard work , and getting a beautiful, one of a kind product in return.
But seriously folks…when it comes down to it, who would you rather support? The more we keep our mullah close to home, the more our community thrives, and that’s always more fulfilling than an Indonesian made cable knit sweater from McTarget-mart.
If you are anything like me – you’ve been struck by the massive amounts of natural disasters that have been taking place around the world recently. Especially in Haiti. That earthquake was one of the most destructive of our time and has left an entire country leveled. From tsumanis to earthquakes, it seems like the earth is literally reacting to all of the stress that we are putting it under. I feel so grateful to have all that I do and to not have to worry about basic conveniences such as running water, food & shelter. For so many people, those things that we take for granted on a daily basis are only dreams. I figure if I’ve been blessed with so much it’s my duty to give back to those less fortunate than I am.
My great friend (and former roomate) Marnique has been working with a group in Haiti called Helping Haitian Angels. Find out more about them here. Helping Haitian Angels’ mission is to care for orphaned children in Haiti by raising them to become happy, successful members of their communities who will have the tools to positively impact future generations. She’s been to Haiti multiple times to work at the orphanage there and has always had great experiences. She invited me to go with her back in April, but there was too much going on politically so our trip was cancelled. This time everything seems safe so, we’re heading out in November. I’m excited and ready to see how this country is getting on after experiencing such disaster from the earthquake in 2010.
We’ve been asked to bring personal care items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste & soap as well as games and crafts for the children. I’ve solicited donations from friends and family but decided to take things a step further by asking for your help! We’ll have a donation box at the front desk of WAX. No donation is too small and I’ll be matching whatever we raise before November 4th. I’ll use this money to buy the aforementioned items and deliver them personally to the Kay Anj orphanage in Haiti. You’ll be able to see here on this blog how the money you donated made an impact on lives in Haiti. I’ll be posting pictures of my trip so stay tuned!
