Regina’s May Addictions

A few things we love about the month of May:  Sooooo many birthday parties, summer is around the corner, and Easter candy is insanely cheap.  May is always a very busy month for everyone.  For WAX, May just gives us a good glimpse into our our summer ahead.  So far, outlook looks GREAT! :)

Here are a few things getting Regina through her jam packed month:

1.)  Cadberry egg minis:  I LOVE the taste and the bite size pieces.
2.)  Organic Lip Balm:  I’m addicted to the smell and the way it feels on my lips.
3.)  Fresh Squeezed juice from whole foods:  I
love the flavors, and the fact that it is good for you is a bonus!
4.)  Shelac (gel nail polish):  I love that it lasts for weeks without chipping and stays shiny!
5.)  Victorias Secret Very Sexy Miracle Push up bra:  They feel great, and of course, I love the “boost” they give!  ;)

Product Review: 100% Pure Sea Therapy Bath Salts

We have recently added 100% Pure‘s therapeutic bath salts to our selection of body care products, and all we can say is:  Why didn’t we carry this sooner?!

It comes in two scents:  Lavender and Eucalyptus; perfect for a refreshing spring time soak.  Bath salts are great for many health reasons, however, this is not your ordinary salt soak…

100% Pure Sea Therapy is derived from crystalized kelp that is cultivated from an organic seaweed farm off the Brittany coast of France.  This highly detoxifying bath is perfect for improving body circulation and eliminating unwanted toxins.  In a world full of environmental pollutants and food that can be nutritionally deficient, this is a great way to flush out the bad and absorb some much needed minerals.

But that’s not all!  Due to the vitamin K content, taking a bath with these crystalized sea greens with help balance your body chemistry without dehydrating it, and it will help restore hormonal balance for a more youthful body.  It’s perfect for softening the skin and even aids in the elimination of bruises and dry, rough patches of skin.

With over 60 different minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and amino acids that replenish, nourish, detox and heal, how could we NOT add sea salt soaks to our weekly beauty and health regime?  If you’ve been looking for an excuse to add bath time to your busy schedule, here’s your opportunity.  Take your pick of either soothing lavender or revitalizing eucalyptus.  Although, it may be hard to pick just one…

Lane’s Addictions

1.)  Arden’s Garden:  Their crispy kale chips are sooooo good!  Also the juice that has strawberries, apple, and lime is my new favorite.

2.)  Argan Oil:  I purchased an Argan oil spray for my hair recently.  I think it’s love.  It makes my hair soft and shiny but not greasy.

3.)  Moroccan Amber Candle:  This isn’t exactly a “new” addiction, but the larger size with 3 wicks is awesome.  I can smell it throughout my whole apartment…

4.)  Spry Sugar Free Gum:  It doesn’t have sugar that’s bad for my teeth and it doesn’t have aspartame that’s bad for my body!

5.)  Zevia All Natural Soda:  Zero calories, zero sugar, and it actually tastes good!

Tan On, Wax Off

Dear P. Willow,

It’s finally spring and I am planning a trip to the beach in a couple of weeks.  Let’s just say, I have been in full hibernation this winter!  My skin is so pale, and I haven’t waxed in weeks…

Before I leave for my trip, I really need to schedule a full body wax and a spray tan at RAW! Should I get waxed before, or after I get my spray tan?

Sincerely,

Beach Bum

Dear Beach Bum,

First of all, I am so jealous of this beach trip!  Think about me when you’re catching those waves and indulging in endless crab legs…

At WAX, we are faced with this question ALL the time!  Thanks to our wonderful neighbors at RAW organic bronzing studio, clients can finally get a spray tan that looks natural and free of harsh chemicals.  We always suggest waiting at least 24 hours after getting waxed to be spray tanned.  This is to avoid irritating the skin that has recently been waxed.  Waxing after getting spray tanned will result in lifting the color, and nobody wants a splotchy tan (whether it’s real, or not…)!

xoxo,

Misty’s Addictions

March showers bring April flowers, and that is certainly the theme for Misty’s addictions this month.  It’s a great time to refresh and renew, and get ready for swimsuit season.  Yes, that’s right.  We have less than 90 days, ladies….

1. Natures Garden:  Organic local fresh produce delivered to my door weekly.

2. Music:  Yeasayer, Gotye, Bon Iver, Bassnectar, Trentemoller and many many more…

3. Omega Juicer Fresh squeezed juice in the morning is the best. Currently reading Juicing Fasting and Detoxing for Life
4. Life Ionizer Alkaline Water:  It’s pure, healthy, and cleaner than most water.  It has a higher pH level, which helps with the digestion of acidic foods.
5. Taking Aerial Classes Keeps me motivated, toned and balanced. Now I just need a little yoga to keep me centered and focused.

Self Waxing. To Be Avoided At All Costs.

I own a waxing studio. I’m here all the time. However, sometimes it’s damn near impossible for me to get waxed. I guess I could schedule an appointment like the rest of our clients but since I’m always here I figure “Oh, I’ll squeeze in tomorrow”. Tomorrow invariably turns into the day after tomorrow and then the next day. Which brings us to this past Friday.

The ladies were booked solid (they are the best) and I had an event to attend where my legs were going to be exposed. By this point the hair on my legs was so long it was embarrassing. I’ll spare you the photos but suffice it to say that I would NOT have been representing WAX well.

So I decided to wax my own legs. Easy, right? I propped my leg up and applied the wax in one smooth motion. So far, so good I thought and then my shirtsleeve promptly got stuck in the wax. Note to self – long sleeves while waxing legs not advised. Second strip was better – I started to get in a rhythm – apply, smooth down strip, hesitate to build up courage and then pull. Cue string of expletives because let me tell you, waxing yourself hurts more than having someone else wax you. Misty poked her head in to observe and laugh. In that order.

I continued on and decided that since I was on such a roll I should go ahead make an attempt at my bikini line. All I can say is that there is a reason why you lay down while getting that area waxed. Standing up and craning my neck to get a good view of the area left me with a tension headache and blurry vision. I stopped after one side since that part of my body would not be on display that night. Bummer.

In the end I ended up with the following: hairless fronts of my lower legs (who can reach the back??), a bikini line that resembled a mountain range and a stiff neck. I learned my lesson and have scheduled myself in for the next 6 months of appointments. Including today. Someone has to even me out and it sure as hell ain’t gonna be me.

Leela’s Addictions

So much has gone on at WAX this past January with all of the exciting new renovations that it’s a relief to find ourselves starting anew.  New month, new outlook, new addictions!  Typically February is all about boxed chocolates and stuffy winter wear, but this year I feel it’s much different.  Don’t get me wrong, I still get excited about a box of chocolates and a good peacoat, but this time it’s all about planning ahead for spring.  You could even say, I’m addicted to it….

Here are some things that have been (and will continue to be) on my list for the month of February:

1.)  Vintage Brown Ankle Boots:  I could easily forecast this as a life-long addiction at this point, but it started when I found the most comfortable flat, brown, lace up vintage ankle boots on Etsy.  My overly obsessive shopping days are over (along with my early twenties), so now when I find something I like, I like it to death.  Here’s where I bought mine:  Granny’s Bootery

2.)  Tanglewood Farms:  Three words:  Miniature, farm, animals.  ’Nuff said.  Google it.  Go there and get blind sighted by cuteness.

3.)  Éminence Strawberry Rhubarb Masque:  I love to use this as either a mask, or as a bi-weekly scrub.  The texture is gentle enough for sensitive skin, and has saved my skin from break outs on many occasions.

4.)  Organic Gardening:  With all of this premature spring weather, I have been itching to get my raised bed plans all in order.  Never having made a true attempt at cultivating a successful garden, this year feels like my year (to not be so lazy).  Along with my planning, I have been perusing the Georgia Organics website regularly for tips, organic seed resources, and updates on the local food movement in Georgia.

5.)  Turquoise, bones, and feathers:  I realize the Native American, bohemian vibe is a bit of a trend right now, but I seriously can’t get enough of these natural elements.  Whether it’s in jewelry, art, or used as an embellishment, I’m into it.  However, as with all things, I feel it’s important to be conscious of ethics over vanity.  If you’re looking for awesome cruelty-free feathers, check out the Friendly Feather Shop.  They make great gift wrapping flair!

Latanya’s Addictions

It’s almost the end of January, and it does NOT feel much like winter.  In fact, it’s down right balmy!  Needless to say, this can really ruin any passion one might have for cozy cardigans and hot Starbucks peppermint mochas (well, maybe not ruin…).  This month, Latanya has a few product addictions that actually go quite nicely with this winter’s tropicalpocalypse…

1. Naked Juice Products:  Delicious!  Fresh fruit and vegetables with no added preservatives..

2. Argan Oil:  I love it because it makes my hair very soft and manageable.

3. Castor Oil:  Adds suppleness to my hair to create desired style (perfect for humid days).

4. PFB with Chromabrite:  This product is great and helps with improving my skin tone and texture.

5. Nest Moroccan Amber Candle:  This candle has a great, clean, refreshing scent.  It’s easy to understand how this is our best selling candle!

Out With The Old – In With The NEW

The holidays are over and you finally have a moment to catch your breath, balance your checkbook, and loosen your belt.  If you are anything like us in the spirit of holiday cheer, the glasses of wine were abundant, and Christmas cookies and festive treats were consumed by the handful.  It was fun, it was celebratory…….and now it’s time to cleanse!

There are countless detox cleanses out there.  Some are short, some are longer, and some have you dreaming of pork ribs.  This year, WAX is closing for an entire week for some major improvements and renovations, so some of us are taking this opportunity to conduct some major renovations on ourselves!  Below are a few great detox plans that we like for different reasons, but they all have one goal in common, and that is:  OUT WITH THE OLD!  So put down your morning latte, and grab some fresh squeezed beet juice.  It’s time to cleanse!

1.  Dtox Juice Feast:  We’ve chosen this cleanse for us to kick start 2012. Along with our friends at the The Aviary and Liz Lapidus PR we’ll be picking up our juices starting Monday! Located in Midtown, Dtox makes it difficult for you to fall off the wagon with this 3 day juice cleanse service.  For $50 a day, you can pick up your pre-squeezed juices (which come in cute little glass jars and a cute little white box), and drink away.  You can even pay a little extra and have them delivered!  A day’s worth of juices includes:  2 Red Juices, 2 Green Juices, 1 Dtox Water, 1 Brazil Nut Milk, 1 Wheatgrass Elixir, and 1 Aloe Elixir.  As with all juice cleanses, it’s important to prep beforehand!  Be sure to read about what to do before you get started in order to have the best results:  Before, During, and After

2.  Arden’s Garden 2 Day Detox:  One of our clients swears by this. She does it monthly and actually looks forward to it! You live in Atlanta, it’s virtually impossible to get by without having tried an Arden’s Garden bottled juice.  However, have you ever tackled their 2 day detox?  2 gallons of water, fresh lemon, grapefruit, and orange juice blended and consumed in 2 days.  Oh, and no food.  While it may seem impossible to survive on citrus and water alone, it’s actually quite the opposite.  Citrus fruit provides over 100% of your daily allowance of  vitamins, and are antioxidant powerhouses.  Check out where your closest Arden’s Garden location is, and pick up your two gallons of energy:  Arden’s Garden locations

3.  Dr. Rau’s Liver Detox Diet:  Don’t think you’re ready to give up food?  Dr. Rau’s detox diet is a good way to get on the new year detox train, without giving up food completely.  However, it does require more prep, and it is recommended that you post-pone your regular daily routine so that you may stay focused on the diet.  Myka & I did this one last year and it was quite good. Some of the recipes have been put into full time rotation at the house. Dr. Rau’s focus is on cleansing the liver, the large and small intestine, and he promotes optimal nutrition as a means of warding off disease and bodily disfunction.  Not only is this a great way to cleanse once a year, but it also acts as a great jump starter for eating well throughout the year:  The Swiss Secret to Optimal Health, Dr. Rau’s Alkaline Soup Recipe

4.  2012 Whole Living Action Plan:  This month’s issue of Whole Living provides a slew of tools to help you get your new year’s health resolution in check.  If you’re willing to go the distance, they provide a 4 week detox regimen, complete with shopping lists for each week.  This plan is perfect for someone looking to finally trade in their old bad eating habits, and begin a new path.  Along with great recipes, they also give tips on how to stay on track, how to deal with your detox symptoms, and detox stretches and yoga postures:  Secrets to a Successful Cleanse

Here’s to a fresh start in 2012!
