Misty’s Addictions

March showers bring April flowers, and that is certainly the theme for Misty’s addictions this month.  It’s a great time to refresh and renew, and get ready for swimsuit season.  Yes, that’s right.  We have less than 90 days, ladies….

1. Natures Garden:  Organic local fresh produce delivered to my door weekly.

2. Music:  Yeasayer, Gotye, Bon Iver, Bassnectar, Trentemoller and many many more…

3. Omega Juicer Fresh squeezed juice in the morning is the best. Currently reading Juicing Fasting and Detoxing for Life
4. Life Ionizer Alkaline Water:  It’s pure, healthy, and cleaner than most water.  It has a higher pH level, which helps with the digestion of acidic foods.
5. Taking Aerial Classes Keeps me motivated, toned and balanced. Now I just need a little yoga to keep me centered and focused.

Pet Names for the V-word

Here at WAX, we try and always stick to the medical terms for the human anatomy.  However, over the past couple of years, we have become privy to a seemingly endless array of pet names for the female nether regions (some subtle, some just flat out hilarious…).  In general, clients prefer to not even use a word for one’s ‘hoo-ha’; instead it’s just a general hinting or alluding to the (not so general) area.  Needless to say, we have become quite the translators!

Whenever we do encounter a new and unusual term for one’s, well, VAGINA, we like to try and take note. What do you think?  Are pet names for one’s lady parts endearing? Offensive?  Bizarre?

We’re no experts on sexual slang, but we’ve put together a little list of some of our favorites.  Some classic, some crude, and all of which we can’t explain…

cha-cha

snatch

box

fanny  (British slang; not to be used loosely!)

beaver

V-jay

cookie

minge

vajayjay

muff

lady bits

snowflake

tootie

PYT (my personal favorite)

yin-yang (??)

rose bud

lady business

na na

honey pot

sugar

peach

lady garden

muffin

We realize that there are SO many more out there, but we’ll leave that research up to someone else…

Leela’s Addictions

It’s July, it’s obscenely HOT…. but no matter how ridiculous the thermostat gets, there’s one thing that I know for sure, and that is:  Summer time = FUN time.  When I’m not busy making sure things are running smoothly at WAX, you can usually find me clutching a cold drink on a friend’s front porch, or crashing my neighborhood pool (wearing about 3 inches of sunscreen, of course).

Every season has it’s list of ‘must haves’ and ‘must dos’ (such as large brimmed sun hats and trips to the sandy coast).  This month, I have a few personal obsessions that have made my life of work and fun easy breezy:

  1. RGB nail polish in Mink- You can’t go wrong with a taupe-brown neutral for anytime of the year, and this shade by RGB is my current fav.  It also helps that it’s free of harsh chemicals, which is always an essential for me with any beauty product.
  2. Greens Plus Energy Bars- These bars are a total life saver! Forget sugary power/granola bars that have more junk than good.  These bars are the perfect snack to keep you going whenever you get into that mid-day rut, and they are exploding with antioxidants.
  3. Underarm waxing- I am officially addicted to underarm waxing.  I KNOW! I know….It’s been almost 2 years since I started at WAX, and I’ve never ventured to the pits.  I have been missing out.
  4. Marvis Toothpaste in Ginger Mint- I never realized how much I could love a toothpaste until I tried this little gem!  Not only is it super effective, but the packaging has a great retro modern design that looks lovely in my bathroom!
  5. The Grant Park Farmers Market-  I look forward to this every Sunday.  After coffee, my dog Maebe and I take a stroll down to the market to pick up some fresh bread and lots and lots of peaches!  Perfectly ripe, and locally grown…..we’re totally addicted.

Misty Marie Moss

Misty is a graduate of The Esani Institute in Atlanta. She is WAX’s lead esthetician and specializes in Brazilians. Misty loves the immediate satisfaction of waxing. In her words she “doesn’t want to be good at everything she wants to be amazing at a few things.” Bikini design is one of those things – she has had many designs pass her way from flags to initials. In addition to bikini design she is also skilled at designing a great brow through waxing or threading. To add to the allure of the eye created through a great brow, Misty studied abroad at The London Makeup Academy and is a skilled make up artist. Misty is known as the “Gentle Waxer”. From her soft voice to her soothing hands everything about her is calm and quiet…But we know better – those hands have waved about in the air while regaling us with tales of a life well lived and embarrassing moments that we had to swear not to print here….

Hard wax really is better.

I recently went on a trip without getting waxed prior to leaving. It’s usually top on my list, but it was a busy week and even I couldn’t get an appointment! I found a place in NY that specializes in waxing and so was excited to see what the competition was up to. The place was nice enough but for some reason as soon as I walked in I felt more like I was in a cattle call. Names & services were being yelled out from the front desk while a constant flurry of nameless estheticians hustled clients through an unmarked door. Read More

Waxing in a Civilized Society

Has anyone else noticed that we seem to be busier and busier these days? I know I am. I even hired an assistant so I could be less busy. Somehow that hasn’t taken and I am still busy as ever. Of course I started a new business, moved into two apartments in two different cities and continue to rack up frequent flier miles shuttling back and forth between the two. I decided to organize a neighborhood business association and run it. In between all of that I act as wife, daughter, friend, on call interior designer, yogi and personal assistant to my father. For some reason (even though he has his own assistant) he is incapable of booking his own international travel or doing any research of any kind on the internet. I have since passed that role on to my assistant. Thanks, Leela.

As my father would say I jumped out of the frying pan into the fire.
